FAQ's

Is my coffee expired?

We can confidently say NO!

We make sure to keep the freshest coffee in stock for your enjoyment. The date you see on the bag is really a "freshest by" date, and definitely not an expiration date. Also, all of our bags use a one-way valve which allows the natural CO2 emitted by the beans/grounds to escape the bag, while not allowing additional oxygen in, and thjus slow down the natural oxidative processes that typically ruin coffee.

A few storage tips:

  • The best place to store coffee is in a cool, dry place.
  • You can extend the coffee's freshness by sealing and storing in the freezer.
  • If you freeze the coffee, use only what you need, try not to thaw and re-freeze the whole bag.

As a side note, every bag sold from late 2017 is NitroFlushed - regardless of the expiration date on the bag, this extends the freshness capacity by at least 12-18 months. SCIENCE!

What's the valve on my Kimera Koffee bag for?

That valve is a "One Way Valve", or also known as a "Degassing" valve. Once coffee is roasted, it starts releasing CO2 -- a natural by-process of coffee roasting. Oxygen is the enemy of freshly roasted coffee, so the valve allows the CO2 and any remaining oxygen in the bag to escape without allowing additional oxygen in.

There are white chunks in my bag of Kimera Koffee.  What gives?

Not to worry. The white chunks are actually the powdered Nootropics (most likely Alpha GPC) that didn't get dissolved in the mixing process. Our coffee only contains five ingredients -- ground coffee, Alpha GPC, L-Theanine, Taurine and DMAE, so any white residues are simply undissolved amino acids which are perfectly safe to consume.

Press it with a spoon and mix it back into the bag and you should be good to go!

Is Kimera Koffee Vegan?

Yes! Our vitamins - though they can be found in animal products - do not come from animals.

Is Kimera Koffee Organic?

Our Coffee is not certified Organic, but we do not use pesticides, herbicides, insecticides nor fungicides.

Kimera beans use the aid of manure, potassium and phosphate to grow healthier and and richer in flavor.

Where do your Nootropics come from?

Our Nootropics are sourced from a U.S. company, which provides a certified lab analysis and purity test for each batch.

What kind of beans do you use?

Arabica Caturra

Are your Nootropics performance enhancing drugs?

Absolutely not! Our nootropics are derived from natural ingredients and are on the Generally Regarded As Safe list (GRAS).

Does Kimera contain mycotoxins?

We use wet processing to eliminate mold and toxins, and the roasting ensures they are gone! Almost all modern, reputable coffee companies implement this method.

What's the best way to store Kimera?

We recommend you store it at room temperature, away from sunlight and sealed with a clamp or a sealed plastic bag.

Does a coffee filter eliminate the Nootropics in any way?

Carbon filters are not effective at removing minerals and salts pertaining to the category our Nootropics fall under.

Are Nootropics affected by hot or cold water?

Cold brew is just fine! Our Nootropics are highly soluble, so they'll mix easily.

As far as heat, the lowest degradation point for all of our Nootropics occurs at a boiling point of 135C. This is extremely hot (coffee drips operate at 100C). Don't worry 'bout the heat.

How much Kimera Koffee can I consume in a day?

We get this question quite a bit. The answer is -- exactly the same as a regular cup of coffee if we're talking about caffeine intake!

If talking about a maximum amount of healthy Nootropic intake, we recommend no more than 8 tablespoons of ground coffee (4 servings) per day.

With that being said, we do not recommend going over 500 mg of caffeine to have the best synergistic effects between Nootropics and coffee. This would be the equivalent of 2-3 cups or 4-6 tablespoons per day

Assess your tolerance and be safe!

What type of grind size does Kimera use?

We use a medium to fine grind that is pretty much the most versatile size and fits various brewing methods. It fits drip, french press, espresso and aeropress.

Is Kimera Koffee fairtrade or organic?

Not at the moment. But read on! To be part of a Fairtrade cooperative, certain standards have to be met. The costs of these standards can be quite high, meaning, the cost of maintaining standards can sometime actually outweigh the amount made by selling your produce, therefore making Fairtrade detrimental to the livelihood of the Fairtrade farmers. Our founders live close to the farm and have a relationship with the farming community and when these farmers have to certify their crops as fair trade or organic in order to sell to first world companies they then lose business to a wealthier middle man company that get his certifications!

Why can't I feel the effects of the Nootropics?

Might be a couple of things!

Individuals that are consuming pre-workouts or other caffeinated supplements may need to reset their caffeine tolerance. Over-consumption of caffeine will create an adverse effect and make you feel sluggish and groggy.

There is also a recent discovery in caffeine sensitivity: a study published in 2016 shows that the PDSS2 gene, also known as the "coffee gene", is linked to caffeine sensitivity. This explains why some people can drink coffee and go straight to bed while others stay amped for hours.

A simple way to reset your caffeine sensitivity is to stop taking any stimulants, including coffee, for about 5 days.

It's important to note that nootropics have been shown to have longer-term benefits too! Alpha GPC, for example, increases your power output after about a 1 week period. Some of the other nootropics tend to exhibit longer-term effects as well.
